Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman is undergoing a medical at Schalke ahead of a season-long loan move to the Bundesliga club, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old was one of the club's summer signings last season after he joined from FC Augsburg for an undisclosed fee.
He featured 23 times for the Blues last season but struggled to impose himself in Jose Mourinho's and Guus Hiddink's defensive department.
According to Sky, new manager Antonio Conte believes that there is no space for the Ghanaian in his squad.
In April, interim manager Guus Hiddink was critical of the youngster as he explained that he should be "less nice" on the pitch.
"He has the skill but he must also be able to be dominant defensively," the Dutchman explained.
"He's working on that. He's a very nice person and I said to him: 'Be a nice person outside the pitch but be less nice on it.'
"With experience I hope he can make the next step, because he has the skill. He has to get the attitude of: 'This is my area and whoever comes in, I kill them.'"
