Chelsea blow as £25.7million offer for striker is turned down

By

Santos forward Gabriel Barbosa has rejected the chance to join Chelsea, according to UOL

The Blues were determined to sign the youngster after making a £25.7million offer but the 19-year-old has decided to stay at Santos.

Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund were also linked with a possible move for the Brazil international but he will sign a new deal with Santos that will keep him at the club until 2021.

In May, agent Wagner Ribeiro revealed that the player wanted to continue at Santos amid rumours that the French giants were ready to make a move to sign him.

"I have spoken a lot with [PSG sporting director] Olivier Letang," Ribeiro said two months ago.

"Now the French league is finished, they will take a look at possible signings. The dream of the president is to win the Champions League, they have a lot of money to invest in football. Maybe Gabriel will be an option, but everything is already good.

"He is happy at Santos. He has a contract, he is in great form, so we will wait for what is next. Santos have nothing to lose. Gabriel has great potential and, if it is not now, he will be a fantastic return on the investment that the club made in the future. It is a question of time."
