Everton have signed defender Ramiro Funes Mori from Argentine club River Plate but he will not replace John Stones in the heart of the defence.
The 24-year-old is a natural centre-back but can also be deployed on the right wing.
According to reports, he was the one identified by boss Roberto Martinez to replace Stones but he will instead link up with the 21-year-old.
The Toffees have in fact turned down Stones' transfer request with the Englishman set to stay at Goodison Park.
