Chelsea never made contact with Atletico Madrid to sign Arda Turan, president Enrique Cerezo has revealed.
The Turkey international was reported to be a target for Jose Mourinho before signing for Barcelona but Cerezo says the 28-year-old had always the Blaugrana in mind after deciding to leave the club.
"We didn't talk with Chelsea, Barcelona was the first option," Cerezo told Spor Net-NTV.
"We got an agreement because of Luis Enrique's insistence."
The Liga champions have signed Turan from Atletico Madrid for an initial fee of £24m, a deal that could reach £29m with potential add-ons.
